If this the case, why do many others get tattoos in the military?

gang tattoos, racially offensive tattos and any tattoo that shows while in uniform(neck, hands) must be removed.

In recent months, all Branches have become stricter about what they will allow, and are giving out less waivers.

Something about that story doesn't sound right. Based on what I've seen. Sailors are the most tattooed then Marines, then Army and last Air Force.

I have a couple of Nephews in the Air Force one of them had a tattoo before he joined. They frowned on it but didn't make him have it removed.

It may have to do with the subject of the tattoo. Also, the Marines are far more strict about dress and appearance regulations. My brother just joined the Marines and had to let his piercings go closed.

it depends on what the tatoo is and where it is at. the army is in a uproar because they just changed the policy and will allow tatoos on the neck and back of hands. it used to be that while in dress uniform no tatoo could be seen. they can not have any thing with naked women that show certain body parts, or cuss words. i am assuming the marines are the same as the army.

It's probably because it was not in keeping with the Marine's Code of Conduct - which is pretty strict. I don't KNOW this - I'm guessing. Guys I know in the Marines, or who served in the Marines, have simple "Marine" tats.

i've heard that tattoos that are in places that can be seen in plain sight such as the neck, hands, wrist, face are to be removed.

and also the size of the tattoo is a factor...

What was the tattoo? Maybe they just didn't want him?
