Ummm, taste buds (papillae) don't swell. If you have swelling in your throat, or your tongue is swollen, you need to see a doctor. The sooner the better, especially if it is interfering with swallowing or breathing.

My stepfather had that same problem. His dentist told him that it comes from brushing the tongue too roughly. The spray they gave him, however, didn't work so well, so they gave him an antibiotic and told him to not brush his tongue so hard. See if your dentist can give you something as well.
