CHEWING GUM , one piece on the way up and another when descending , no problems and your ears won't " pop " because the movement of the jaw naturally releases tension / pressure .

In the old days, airlines always gave passengers hard candy drops to suck on and the constant swallowing prevented the air pressure differences. When I was a kid, we moved to Hong Kong from Pennsylvania...I had more lollypops and hard candy than ever before in my life...the flights were sort of puddle-jumpers with many stops. Besides, who doesn't like candy?

Stand up straight, yawn (even if fake) wiggle your toes in your shoes, roll your shoulders back, roll your neck side to side, slide your jaw back and forth a bit, roll your neck again, yawn once more then check yourself out in the window as you confidentally (even if you don't feel confident-fake it) pass by. Now, wink at yourself and give a little smile and a nod and think with a positive attitude...I am ready to conquer the world and I LOOK GOOD!

You can do this on the plane.....chew gum or hold your nose, & close your mouth & try to blow out. It works.

Usually swallowing works for me, but you can also try wiggling your jaw or chewing gum.

yawning is the easiest, or chewing gum.
Drinking works too. Anything that stretches your mouth and the muscles of your neck and throat.

Chew gum as you descend.

I usually yawn. And to yawn on command, don't breathe deep. Just short breathes, enough to keep your comfortable and not gasping for air.
