I'm going to school to be a nurse practitioner. If I wanted to become a doctor, what is the process and how long does it take?

if you are bright and like school you can go for the MD. 4 years of college, then 4 years of medical school. after that you do a residency in whatever you want to specialize in - this could range from 3 yrs for peds, family practice to 6 or more years for surgical subspecialities. but during the residency you are at least getting paid. the residency hours are horrenduous but they have new laws now and you can only work for 80 hrs a week.
