Am I dreaming or the number of muslim women wearing that veil has suddenly tripled in the last couple of months ? 6 months ago, a year ago we hardly saw any muslim women wearing that thing. Now, I can't turn my head on the street that I don't see them everywhere, absolutely everywhere !! I am beginning to believe that that is their act of anger, or of defiance for the war they feel we are waging on them. As if they know they are annoying us. Has anyone else noticed that the number of veils on the streets has increased ? I am sure I am right.

sugarNspice -- I am a christian who objects to the fact that no churches are allowed to be built in their country. DID YOU KNOW THAT A MUSLIM WAS CONDEMNED TO DEATH FOR CONVERTING TO CHRISTIANITY ?

led, I am not "dreaming of a strange world" as you put it. It is OUR Europe that is turning inot a strange world for us. Don't forget this is OUR LAND as yours is yours !
Can you at least UNDERSTAND that it makes Euros UNCOMFORTABLE with that veil on your women's faces ? Whatis a country about, mate, if not OUR culture remaining as we like it ? You guys are changing it, like it not. YOU KNOW you would hate to see a Christian cathedral in downtown Bagdad but you get all offended and DEMAND tolerance if we object to something SO FOREIGN to us as women with veils that COMPLETELY turn them into beings from outter space.

janebfj -- I really liked your answer. Thanks. Believe it or not, I am the most tolerant person you can meet but this veil thing is irritating to say the least. I am married to a Japanese girl. We have abeautiful half euro half jap little beautiful boy. SO I AM NOT A RACIST. I know a few very nice (I meant it) muslim guys. But this provocation of wearing that stupid veil, I feels turn this european country into a very strange place and that is said HONESTLY !

I' not a Brit, but the issue you are raising is not only relevant in the UK, at least it is relevant for most of the EU countries. I am not sure I understand why is it so important for those women to wear veils. I hear it is not even requested by Islam. For me a religion is a conviction, a way of life, and a veil cannot make someone righteous, much in the same way as not wearing a veil does not make you a sinner. If, however, this is the idea, all those women wearing veils are insulting me, by calling me ''a sinner''.
Well, I don't want to believe, that this is what they want to tell the rest of us non-veiled women.
OK, let's take it as a sign of modesty. Why is it so then, that Muslim men do not wear veils? I am talking about those who walk by a veiled woman and do not have a beard or a turban.
My country has a tradition of tolerance and peaceful co-habitation of Christians and Muslims. Muslims here are in no way different than us and the people in the villages traditionally celebrate together their holidays. But in the last years I too have started to see veiled women in the streets. The local Muslim community is in fact divided on the issue and I've heard them share that they feel their traditional way of life threatened. I'm afraid this is something coming from abroad, maybe with Arab money.
So, if Islam does not require a certain attire from its followers, if veils are the tradition in some Arab countries, well, the tradition in the secular EU countries is different! I would certainly not wear a mini skirt in Saudi Arabia - only because I believe in respecting the traditions of the country whose rules you have chosen to follow by living there.

I've spoken to Muslims about this. A lot of the younger girls are doing it at the moment and for many its a fashion/political statement. Just like mini skirts were frowned on when they first became fashionable so more women wore them, these girls are wearing them to stick two fingers up at everyone it irritates. many older muslim women believe they will grow out of it when they realise how oppressive, awkward etc it is. When I was at school I can't remember a single muslim girl even wearing a headscarf. So in part you are right, for some its defiance but it isn't just political it really is also fashionable and/or 'cool'. Just like people who didn't suit some of the less savoury '80s fashions are wearing them again this time round because they want to be cool and fashionable. Just be careful how and where you make the observation, it isn't necessarily racist but people on all sides can turn it into racism.

totally agree with you most of them i suspect are wearing it as a sign of defiance towards are way of life and religious beliefs, personally i think they look bloody ridiculous.and yes there are more and more of them.my little girl said to me yesterday dad why do Muslims wear that mask ,god gave everyone faces.kind of sums it up. and shes only 8.if they want to live in our society they should try to integrate but they don't,when was the last time you saw marches by Muslims against the terrorist atrocities created by Muslims around the world.they don't its that simple but draw a cartoon of some bloke from 1400 years ago and there threatening to cut our heads off.they don't want integration they want domination.have they never heard of the saying when in Rome do as the Romans do.they just don't get it do they, they will never be excepted in Britain because if you have any brain at all you must realise they hate us its that simple.tell me why they keep themselves to themselves in theire own communities.in short yes you are right its a stupid cult not a religion, see faith freedom .org and you will see what i mean.and ther are even Muslims on that sight[sorry] x Muslims who will tell you the stupidity of Islam.

They are all government agents.
The government is trying to cause tensions in order to distract people from the internal divisions in the Labour Party, so they have been sending out truck loads of young Party hopefuls to wear veils and wander around spooking all the bigots and the xenophobes.
It seems to be working too. Who'd have thought it?

Ignorant little person. Check your facts before make stupid statements. Christianity is allowed in several Muslim countries. SOme of the oldest Christian societies exist in Muslim countries. Iraq was a secular society where Christianity was welcomed and churches of course were built. Even Jewish communities exist in Muslim countries.
Regarding the veil, are you prepared to remove your hoodie top when requested or indeed not at all if they were banned. What if wearing a cross was banned or a scarf around your mouth. The veil is harmless and is religious and democracy guarantees a freedom of religious expression. Once you begin to erode that freedom you begin heading down the path to facism and dictatorship.

I don't mean to spoil your party,
But just like some people chose to wear a cross, Muslims are entitled to wear their head veils.
It's personal choice,
Maybe it's not that it's doubled, tripled as you say, Maybe it's because the media has been drawing more attention to it.
" That thing" as you say, Is a mark of respect for their religion and culture & who are you to judge.
I don't agree with all Muslim religion etc, But it should not be outlawed!!!
What about women wearing pant suits, Should that be outlawed because that is traditionally what men wear? No, Because it's a free country.
I don't understand how them wearing a veil can honestly annoy you? I'm sick of people targetting and stereo-typing peoples religion, Just get over it. It's not like they're out their wearing KKK white head caps or something so extreme like that.
EDIT:
Yes i am well aware of what you are saying, But why shoud the women have to suffer for what the " Majority" of radical men have done through their acts of defiance and terroism to the rest of the world.?

Don't worry your "Christian Europe" will not last much longer and the Muslim veils will be the least of your problems. Things are about to change drastically leading to the ultimate truth.

your right. a few years back a woman was told her license was no good because of the veil. they had a fit. don't remember if she ever went back to fix it. it's pretty pathetic when people can come in, and defies laws of any country, and get away with it. cause the idiots scream racist. they need to grow up.

I am a Brit and although I do not agree with all the differences being aired by all and sundry, we are all privileged to be living in a free country. Why do we not all try and get on with one another. There will always be the minority trouble makers on both sides, lets not get drawn in or they will have won!
