Louisiana and New Orleans are a model of the Democratic Utopia. The liberals would run the country the same way. Republicans had no say in the everyday goings on in the region. The good people their lived with their hands out. And The Democrats would take care of them as long as they kept them in power. So along comes a Hurricane (these things happen in the gulf region Occasionally) The ill prepared Democrats just sit tight knowing their Democratic government will continue to give handouts. They were told to leave( They live in a bowl in New Orleans.)They stayed and drowned. Suddenly it is the Republicans fault that they had wide spread death and devastation.Florida traditionally more of a red state gets hit much more often but it's people aren't conditioned to hold out their hands. And they loose few people and rebuild quickly. The victims of Katrina won't rebuild. I have seen people complaining that there is garbage in their yard from the hurricane a year ago. CLEAN IT UP ! They got what they asked for.

A statement. I was recently there in New Orleans. I saw no visible signs of any destruction as far as the business districts and along the highways across the river in the Gretna area as well. So, I assume only the poor sections remain damaged. I spoke to people in Houston where over 100,000 were relocated to from New Orleans. The crime rate has increased dramatically, the health services are too stressed, the rescue times were reduced and most refuse to go back. Just like most larger cities there are areas that are unsafe and high crime and it appears that most of these areas were affected by Katrina and most evacuees do not want to return. They were given work and benefits in Texas and the Texans paid the price. On the news in Baton Rouge shows all the abandoned mobile homes that were given by your tax money, FEMA, that were occupied by victims, soiled carpets and broken windows, drug items all over, urine and fecal stains in the carpets. Many were used as crack houses. In Baton Rouge there are FEMA mobile home parks and some have gotten government low interest loans and are building nice houses, living rent free have gotten large insurance settlements and using the government resources in cleaning up their property in New Orleans to resale for a profit. Your American tax dollar at work. Think about it.

If the people of New Orleans and its local government doesn't get cracking on re-building their city, then the rest of the country should tell New Orleans to go fish.

Storms and natural disasters happen everywhere and the local people have always bent their backs to re-build. What makes the New Orleans gang think they are different and special?

It's my tax dollar that is helping them and I'd like to get a dollar's worth for it.

The Government, volunteers and workers from just about everywhere but New Orleans has busted there butt to clean up the mess that the native New Orleanians are dang lazy and worthless to do for themselves. They won't go back to Louisiana until the Gov. gives them a new house, a Cadillac and a government check.

Renegade is right, and I thought that Spike Lee's special documentary on it may have been correct. They want to build up the city for the rich to improve their economy, so what better way to get rid of the poor?
