My daughter ran away when she was around 15 to go live with her boyfriend who was out of school (whom I never wanted her to date) and living 3 states away. I came home from work & she never showed up...terrible! Found out thru the grapevine where she had headed, but didn't have an address. I did know the city & state & put out a missing-runaway report thru the police on her. They found her & put her on a bus to come home....she got off at one of the stops & hitched back to him. They found her again shortly after & I bought a plane ticket this time & got her into rehab. The guy did come back & of course trouble all over again....long story. The problem is when they get closer to 18 the law backs off of really doing anything about it. She has been thru alot of hard knocks & now 25....FINALLY getting her life together & understanding the other way was going nowhere!

Keeping a good relationship with your child from a young age is the best way to keep them from running away. If they feel you can relate to what they are going through they'll be more than willing to come and talk to you rather than feeling that the only way out is to runaway.

They must be running away for a reason. If there are problems going on in the household, counseling is always good.
You can also scare the crap out of your child by threatening that if they runaway again, you'll send them to military school or a same sex boarding school.

This is a question that I cannot answer, because I never had that problem.
I sympathize with you and I wish you and your family the best of luck, and I hope that the runaway kids come back home to their parents, as long as there is no sexual abuse involved.

They will release your photos to every law enforcement agency in the state, will put your picture on the local news, in local newspapers, on websites, etc. They will canvas areas where teens are known to hang out with your picture asking people if they have seen you

my sister has a daughter now 18yrs....old. she left when she
was 17yrs.old... put her mama through hell-- she always got what
she wanted or needed...she got with the wrong crowd mixed
with the law...she had to make a decision as to have her
arrested, or brought to her once they were found.....
she spent a night in jail.......it helped her more than anything....
cause mama was the only one that could get her out of
jail...... she had to learn ...her mama went through hell,
was on medicine for depression, but we {her sisters}
were there to help her......she made it through-- and ASHLEY
{the daughter} regrets everything she done......they are more closer now than ever before....
