Alright,
Find a very competent and talented artist. A good artist knows how to tattoo any part of the body without making it "hamburger meat". The needle would have to be VERY far out to do some damage. Tattoos are only placed under the first three of about seven layers of skin, so don't worry. It is a very painful spot(I thought it was), but everyone feels tattoos in different spots differently... The factors that make tattoos hurt: yes, sensetive skin, thin skin, skin over the bone, mucus membrane, lots of nerve endings near the surface of skin...etc (Examples: Ribs, Inner Lip, Chest, Wrists, Fingers, Ankles, Nipples, tops of feet, upper, inner arm, facial tattoos, neck, throat...etc) But don't let that phase you, especially if you want something THAT small. It won't take long. Tattoos are not that bad. They can be non or VERY painful, but either way, they should be worth it in the end...
Check a potential artist that you could consider, and look at his portfolio, and talk with them about it. Tattoo artists are the best one to talk to tattoos about! :-) Especialy ones that deal with you first hand, and potentially do it for you.
I have not have a pure white design. i have white as a part of it, and it looks brighter than staright white. And for some reason, the white ink stings/hurts, just a liiiiiittle bit more than any other colors...
Okay, they usually look really white, but Most white ink ends up looking like a scar.. The good thing about that is, You can always get other colors over it if you dont like it, that's why it's better to go for a white, the just straight black...

Note the old flower on the furthest to the left, that is it once over, and the two ones are obviously done over alredy because the top was was just done, and still bleeding...but the'll heal out a lot brighter than the first time...
Some, not all, of course, artists won't use white ink because White dosen't take very well. Sometimes people just bleed it out, and sometimes it just heals out(ie. the skin scabs the white right out of you). Sometimes it takes a few to several times of going over, some just use it for highlighting to bring lighter tones for definintion in a tattoo. Sometimes if you do reasrch and let them know that you know the risks and accept them, then they'll let you, or some don't even thin twice about using white inll...artists vary...
Always remember with placement, you might be screwing yourself. For a first tattoo, you might want something to cover it up for school, a dance, work..etc. People still are very judgement about tattoos, so it could hurt your job prospects....especially the one on your hand. So at least consider it...But if you get a white ink tattoo, it'll proably by faded and look like a scar...
It's all up to you, if you can't decide by yourself, and for yourself, wait or don't do it... That's just the fastest road to regret... remember tattoos should be personal. Do NOT take them lightly...But if you want suttle, a white tattoo may be just the thing for you.....
Either way,
Good Luck to you!

my sister has a braided band all the way around her wrist with a butterfly on the top of the wrist so it looks like a bracelet. She said the underside was a bit more sensitive than other places.
never heard of white ink myself, I wouldn't think it would show up. some colours fade quicker than others also, the lighter colours go faster than darker. My red on my rose is practically gone, but the green is still very dark.I think it also depends on your skin pigmentation. My sister is slightly darker than me because her dad was full blood native american, and the yellow on her sunflower is just as vibrant as the day she got it, and it's several years old. I think the purple on her moon is fading tho. my brother put a scorpion on the "dip" of the hand between the thumb and first finger and it completely faded. So he had a strait line cross put over the scorp and it's still there, but not as dark as it used to be.

I agree with WonderWoman on this one. I have both of the insides of my wrists done. A great spot if you don't want it to be too obvious. They swelled up about 5 times larger than normal but the pain was not that bad. The worst one out of my 10 was the inside of my arm. But, as most people have said, everyone's pain tolerance is different. I would recommend not getting one on your hand. Most artists will not do hands because the tat does not take well. Good Luck!

It's not sensitive skin that makes it hurt, it's the proximity to bone. Obviously, there isn't much skin over the wrist so it is quite painful.
There is no way to do an all white tattoo. The outline will have to be black. Why would you want a white tattoo anyways? Seems like it defeats the purpose.

I have my wrist tattooed. It did not hurt, barely at all. When I had my ankles done, it hurt like a M**th* F**ker. I almost didn't let them finish my anklet it hurt so much. But I sucked it up. The wrist was a breeze. I have the Yankees Symbol and the b**tch that did it refused to put the white in. Said it would turn yellowish cream colored after awhile. So I can't really answer the white question very well.

I have tattoos all over ankles, wrists. There isn't a danger, the needles don't go that deep. Most shops won't do an all white tattoo, there isn't a point. Can't see it after about a month.
If you decide on a tattoo and can find an artist to do an all white tattoo...hands aren't a good idea.

Wanting a white tattoo in order to be "different" is retarded. You want to be an individualist? Dont pick your tatt out of a book. Work with your artist to create something one of a kind for YOU. I have 2 stars, one on each elbow, and it f&*^%* HURT, no question. Tender skin is nothing compared to right on the funny bone. Relavance to the bone is what matters. Think about what youre doing before you do it- thats all I can say. ALSO make sure that ur tat looks right when you move your hand, cause my one tatt is screwey lookin when I straighten out my arm. THINK SYMMETRY. oh and PS, dont snort coke, the bubbles burn your noseholes :-)

It all depends on your pain tolerance. As far as white ink goes, that all depends on your skin. Everyone is different when it comes to the ink that will stay in their skin. I personally don't hold white very well, but my Dad holds it great. Besides you really don't want to get an all white tattoo because you won't get the full appreciation of what it is all about.

The wrist does hurt a bit more than most places. I don't think it's any riskier a spot. I've got white tattoed on me. I got my tattoes as a teenager. I'm now in my 20's and regret them all. Think about it a lot before you go through with it.
