My daughter is 8yrs old. She is not a typical little girly-girl. She doesn't like dolls or barbies, etc. It has become exceedingly difficult to choose presents for her that she will like and actually play with. She loves anything that involves animals, games, computer things, watching movies sometimes, and listening to music. However, she is also very picky about all of those things.
Does anyone have any ideas? I have actually purchased 2 computer games and a dvd/movie....but I can't think of anything else to get or to tell grandparents to get her.

Please be specific if possible. If you have anything that your daughter/child particularly likes, let me know.

I have three daughters and none of them are easy to buy for due to the fact that it seems like their grandparents get them everything they want already. My suggestion is to have her write a list of things she specifically wants for christmas. Ask her to make her answers reasonable though, because when my mom asked me to do this every year I wrote that I wanted a horse and it got her nowhere closer to knowing what I really wanted. If she likes music ask her to be specific about what music she likes. I also find it handy to get my girls Disney Jams CDs because they have a lot of music that they recognize from programs they watch on the Disney Channel. Gift cards are good too. My daughters all love to get gift cards and have a shopping day with Mom. This is good because it's also a learning experience for your daughter. It teaches her about money management. Some good places to get gift cards are Toys R Us, Target, WalMart, and Build A Bear. Build A Bear is really good if she likes animals. We got our girls gift cards for build a bear last year and they absolutely loved it.

In our house we had the kids make up a list of things they wanted for Christmas. They could cut and paste photos of the items or just write it down. We'd hang the list on the refrigerator. They were always told they could ask for as much as they wanted, but that they'd only receive 3 gifts from Santa and 3 gifts from us. They eventually learned to put the gifts they wanted the most at the top of the list and they always had fun doing it (they still do it even though they're young adults now!).
P.S. I like the idea noted above me about the gift cards. You could get your daughter a purse (or carrying bag) and fill it with a couple of gift cards!

I gave my son everything when he was little (probably because I wasn't around much, but that's another story). As he's gotten older, it's more and more difficult to give him things on those occasions. So now at Christmas or Birthday, he gets a trip, usually to a ball park, football game or my best example, an amusement park we haven't been to yet. This one's good 'cause now we live in the N.E. and both occasions are in the closed season so he has to learn patience. My hubby likes amusement parks to so we all get a little vacation out of it so it serves more than one purpose. Our son gets to bring a friend (Good, cause we're a small family and he gets a friend to play with and bragging rights at school).
Gifts aren't always "things":
What about a gift of riding lessons? Or a puppy party/petting zoo at your house and she can invite her friends? A book of movie passes (that you'll go to with her) or maybe take her to an all-ages concert or play. Lots of stuff you can all do together that will give her memories, not just a trinket that could get lost, stolen or broken.

before everything, i think of you spoiled your 13 12 months previous quite undesirable. So undesirable that she is stressful something quite vast, and additionally you do no longer comprehend what to get her because of the fact she already has each little thing that a 13 12 months don't have. A cellular telephone I comprehend, yet as long because it works, she would not % the latest and fanciest one. If she is incredibly athletic, why do no longer you get her the latest Jordan footwear, those are high priced. Or attempt tickets to a basketball game for the gang that she quite likes. Or an autographed basket ball or something like that.

My 8 yearold is not really into toys anymore. She will be getting things like art and craft (water colour pencils are a HUGE hit) a lava lamp, a fluffy cushion, There is a plug into the tv game here that is a skateboard and has a built in game. Grown up bubble bath, books. What about kids trivial pursuit on DVD?

Well, it is important for a child to get something that interests them. However, it is equally important for the child to be thankful for what they get. The child needs to understand that the relative put a lot of thought into picking out a gift that might be enjoyed and that we need to be gracious for that.
There are so many cool science gifts out there now:
build a birdhouse
rock tumblers
microscopes
telescopes
great kite kits
juggling sets
geodes that children can chisel apart
I would have her go to a store and make a list of things that she might like. Then you have the list available for those who need it.

If she likes music, get her an MP3 or Ipod nano. Since the good ones cost so much, u could make it a big part of her Christmas present. (The good ones range from $50 to $150 dollars)

Since she likes watching movies and listening to music you may consider geting a program for her computer to make her own music or movies. They sometimes have them at children's toy stores. I bought a very good one years ago. I found this program on the web. They have a demo to download.

You can ask at the toy stores to see if they have movie making software for kids. Also check online.
I hope you find what you are looking for.
Nice to see a mother that cares. :)
