Oh, yes, some times in Mandarin the word "baba" is shortened to "Ba", which is completely acceptable if you put the correct inflection on it. I'd go on a limb to say that it probably shares common roots with the word "Abba" which is a Romanized version of an Arabic word. Which would explain why so many languages use a version of this word. I'd go even further to say that it's the natural psychological inclination to call the male than one imprints on as a child "Baba" or "Ahbah" because I once observed a baby making this sound at her American father (not connected to any eastern cultures). That's just a theory, though.

I'm not sure, but I think that "Baba" is used in the Hebrew language as well. Just goes to show you that we all have our common roots.


(I just wanted to add that I'm not saying which language used this word first. I'm saying that it's quite possible that they all derived it from a common root language)
