I'd schedule a doctor's appointment and get an evaluation completed. I'd also focus on what I might be doing as a parent and/or how my home environment might be affecting his behavior. You have to find out WHY he is behaving the way he is (often it's because kids copy their parents behavior). There must be a reason so do everything you can do help him. He's just a kid.

Make sure the student is eating, drinking, and sleeping well. Health is very important in determining how a child will behave. Less soda, less sugar and junk foods. Also, make sure that the teachers and principal are fully aware of this problem so that he can be pushed harder and motivated differently. If everyone shows that the behavior will not be tolerated, it might help. Also, does he have anger issues? You might want to look in to that. They have special programs for students with behavioral problems. Some kids just have a rougher time getting through school than others. I hope things get better.

I actually had to do this. I worked around the kids schedule. My son had problems in school, he loved time out because then he did not have to do anything. I informed him and the teacher that if I had to be called to pick him up (they were not to put him in time out anymore) the day would be one of the worst he had ever seen. Well within a week I had to pick him up. Took him home, drug out the encyclopedias and gave him a bunch of work to do. Told him, get in trouble again it would get worse. He pushed it one more time. Had to work from the books AND help clean the house as I was taking time from my work (I was always home when they got hom). It never happened again. But you do need to talk to the teacher and make sure there is not a personality conflict. Have had that also. The ADHD mentioned before could definitly be a possibility, he is bored and feels the teacher beneath him because he/she is teaching something he either does not understand or has already accomplished.

You say everything. May I suggest spanking. If you do it and do it each and everytime he/she misbehaves you will be very surprised by the results you get. For a fourth grader I suggest you swat with something like a paddle--a wooden spoon, back of a hairbrush, etc. and mine would get it on their bare fanny.
I know this sounds very over simplistic and is not very "in"--but I KNOW it works.

i think an old fashion butt spacking would do the trick, i don't mean abuse the child just let her/him know your not playing too many kids get away with talking back etc. and we as parents let it go. then five years from now there on the news shooting up i'll schools . if u don't put them in check now the law will later.

well, i know this is pretty stupid but maybe u should spend a day and follow him/her... that might help.. yes it's only one day but still u could say if u dont behave then i will go to ur school... unless ur child likes the idea of u going to the school.. if ur child likes it that means that my plan back fired... so i hope u like this idea

Talk to your school's special education department. They have testing they can do to find out your son's learning style, and to find out if he has ADD/ADHD. If it is ADD/ADHD, there are medications that will help your son. Once you determine his learning style, the school / teacher can work with your son to help him learn.
