I love to keep my skin pale.. because that is my natural color. Tanned skin - (on those who are naturally light-skinned) - is really not a sign of good health at all - it's basically just skin damage. Tanning not only causes their skin to age faster, it can cause sunburn, and is also the cause of other damage like age spots which show up later in life. And it also puts you at a much greater risk of getting skin cancer. It generally does more harm than good.
I say be proud to look different from your friends, and go for the cool pale and interesting look, and stay safe. If you really must have a tan - then go for a fake one. It may take a lot of effort, but in the end it's definitely worth it. ;-)

I prefer being tanned, definitely in the summer but as winter approaches I don't care so much, people only see your hands & face so why bother & as you rightly point out fake tan is a pain in the bum
The fact that that you are comfortable & confident with your look is always going to be a much more attractive quality than any amount of sunbeds or fake tan !!!!

I'm in the same boat as you, pale skin, but I kind of like it. Then again, I do love almost all things 19th century, and they preferred a pale complexion. I prefer to think of it as timeless beauty, hehe. But some people prefer tanned- not my thing, but it doesn't matter much. I'd say it's fine to be either way. I still don't get why people think being pale is so bad, though...

Well I think people with pale skin and black hair look pretty. But I have that natural olive colored skin and everyone is always telling me how tan I look and where did I get my tan done and Im like it's natural.I don't know everyone has thier differences. You just have to be happy with yourself and not worry about what other people think of your skin.

For the short term I like tanned skin. I don't know why, but it's sexy. Maybe because tanned skin suggests an outdoorsy, active woman to me, whereas pale is associated with indoors, weakness, etc. However, for the long term I like pale skin, because I won't have to worry about her getting too wrinkly, liverspots, or skin cancer. Heck, pale skin isn't all that bad even in the short term anyway.

I prefer pale, because my features are dark brown and I've been complimented on the contrast. My whole family tans to a golden brown but I burn, badly. So do what is best for you, and I think pale skin looks good with many different color features

The hair-colour has alot to do with it.
Someone with auburn hair looks beautiful with pale skin but if you have light brown hair and pale skin you can look washed out and unhealthy so would look better with a tan.

Pale. and i'll tell you why. a family member tanned all of his life, and just ended up with skin cancer (melanoma, the most deadly kind) on his head. So thinking that they could remove it was all great, until they realized that it had infiltrated his whole body. he just died on the 8th of october. hence why i will NEVER tan again. plus is prematurely ages your skin, and gives you beautiful brown spots.... nice.... i prefer pale.
