I don't know uif it is realistic. I wouldn't look for my own apartment obivously, but would try to find a roommate situation in a safe area of New York. It wouldn't have to be Manhattan, but just somewhere safe and close to subways. Should i try to do this? I have lived in CA my whole life, and it is expensive, but not nearly as expensive as NYC. I just like the culture and the diversity and transportation in NYC. I don;t have a stable place to live now, other than friends at this point. I have looked on craigslist in NYC and there aer a few deals for roommates there. Is it worth moving to NYC and is it realistic I can find somewhere safe and nice for what I get there? I would still need some money for food and tranportation left over too. Be as honest as possible please.

It may be time to consider plan B. You do not have nearly enough monthly income to live in NYC. It is a very expensive place to live. You would be lucky to get a small ratty apartment in one of the outer boroughs for the kind of money you can afford with little money left over for other expenses.

$830 a month will not be enough to live on in NYC; even with a good roommate in a good neighborhood (and for your budget, that will take an act of god).

I'm sorry to dash your hopes; but I highly advise against it. If you're not in a position to have your own place in somewhere more affordable, NY isn't going to improve your situation.

If you do stumble upon a bargain, also, it may be five flights up - with no elevator. I don't know your disability, but I mention it in case it's a factor.

First see through CA social services how/if you could transfer your disability status to New York State authority. Then see if CA would assist in qualifying you for Section 8 housing. I would try to find locales in Queens. It's a nice borough and has subway lines going into Manhattan. Good luck!

I am a Canadian, but I have found myself wishing to move to Toronto. Like you, I am on disability. My mother discouraged me given her perception of the financial reality of living in the big city. I thought I would have more of a life in Toronto, and I had a pen pal who had promised to be my roommate. I think you would have a better shot if you knew somebody who was giving up an apartment or who would take you on as a roommate.

No. it is not any longer a reliable thought. long island is extremely high priced. it is a harsh place in case you haven't any longer have been given any money. you could desire to very probable land up on the line. it is not any longer a place you % to be susceptible. in the journey that your in basic terms income is from SSI you may probable in basic terms land up waiting to proportion an volatile construction run by using some finished slumlord. you does no longer in all probability be waiting to locate roommates who're astonishing or truthful human beings. you would be on my own, a protracted way from domicile, susceptible, in possibility, freezing chilly and depressing. do no longer try this, it is not any longer a reliable thought.
