If the only reason you want to be a cop is to be a motorcyle cop than you need to make sure that you really want to be a police officer. There is alot of training to go through, if you make all of the training and get your required degrees and you still want to be a motorcycle cop than you should really get some lessons, the dept. probably won't teach you how to ride a bike.

Not normally, you have to know how to ride very, very well, to be able to even go to the police motorcycle school.

They have a special school for motocycle riding, that will include driving up and down stairs, doing lay overs and so many other things.

so you would need to be an expert rider before you could even be considered,
Now some officers if they like you, could well help you learn to drive a cycle you buy and learn to drive.

At least in our departments there was a long waiting list of officers for the motorcycle department.

** and for some reason a long list for the bicycle group also and why for that I will never understand

I don't know of any department that has a motor unit that doesn't require you to go to specialized training on how to ride whether you already know how or not.

Yes they will. It's actually preferable that you don't have riding experience so you don't have any bad habits to break.

Why not? They're pretty limited by what they can teach you anyway
