My daughter likes to sit up like against a door or wall or anything like that and hit her head against I tell her to stop but she looks at me and keeps on doing it. I've tried to make her understand that its wrong but I don't know if she understands. She is 14 months old I mean I don't think she knowo what she is doing. She doesn't hurt herself or anything, I mean she don't cry when she does it. I was just wondering if it something all kids do?

My Son did this. The doctor told me that he was just experimanting with his pain tolerance. She is not hurting herself just trying to see how hard she can hit her head before it does hurt. It sounds crazy but it is normal. My daughter did this by poking her hand with her baby fork.
She's not retarded, just being a baby! lol

My 2and a half yr old boy will be standing on the floor and just throw his whole self back on the wooden floor. I think it is nuts! My other kids never did this. I think it could be a way of trying to get attention. That is the best answer I have come up with yet. He has been doing this for quite some time.

You are just like every other mother asking this question. Of course it is ok and normal! That is what kids do! We all know that little kids are wiggle worms lol! If you really want her to stop, just try to not draw that much attention to the head banging, and eventually, she will probably stop. Good luck with your 14 month old daughter!

My two both did that at that age as well; so did my two step-kids when they were little. It's a control thing like "Oh look at Mom jump and give me all that attention!". When they're that age don't worry. It's rough , but you need to just turn away when she does it. You should see a difference in a week or two.

Perfectly normal. My son used to do it. He's 18 months.

He still likes to throw himself backward on the floor when he's about to have a tantrum, but he now does it in slow motion so he doesn't bang his head. (It's actually histerical to watch because by the time he carefully lays himself down, he must forget he was about the throw a tantrum because he just lays there.)

i dont think its okay. i remember being embarassed when my first daughter was banging her head against a bus window and people were staring. since then i read that you should get it checked out. she might have an earache or headache and is distracting herself from the pain or it might be a behaviour she needs to be trained out of.

just beacuse the kid isnt crying doesnt mean its not damaging. if you havent noticed kids at that age can fall pretty badly, and get up as if nothing happened. a childs skull at that age is very fragile so be carefulk that brain damage doesnt occur

This is something commonly seen in Autism. You may want to look up some sites and read about this. Best of luck to you!

My kid has done that since about 1 years old.
No clue why, and he still does it and he is now 2 ish.
I think he is very emotional, I hug mine when I see him about to do it.
