I have a 2006 Tacoma double cab with a V 6, automatic. So far no problems, it has good acceleration, rides good and is comfortable.

They're outstanding trucks, but the seating position is more "layed back" than before. Plus, there's less visibility over the hood. Otherwise, they're the best trucks ever.
The recalls the previous tool mentioned are because of the child safety requirements - nothing to do with the quality of the trucks. The only recall is to remove the on/off switch.

The 2006 tacomas have been noted to having automatic transmission problems, vibration problems, "exhaust tick" problems, and engine tick sounds.
On the plus side it now has a timing chain! lol

Toyota's are notorious for recalls, but it will be under warranty anyway. Toyota are a little more expensive than their competators, but they do hold their value. Like Nissan and Honda the toyota's motor will last forever as long as you keep up on the maintenance, especially changing the oil. And like Nissan and Honda the body will fall apart before the vehicle quits running strong.

Somehow Toyota had the most recalls of anyone last year, and quality is only going down while the demand increases. I can really suggest a Nissan, Honda, Chevy or Dodge ('07)

06' tacos have a couple of issues #1 rear leaf spring squeak and the dealer will install new plastic shims in the leaf pack
#2 ive seen a couple come in with standard trans issues which is clutch chatter and some are getting stuck in gear
#3 there is a ticking noise in the engine but it is normal and the dealer wont do anything about it

i personally wouldnt get one ever, seeming as how there is a recall either on the Tacoma or Tundra involving an airbag module and Toyota's suggested fix is just removing that module altogether.
