I wish I had STOPPED drinking milk ages ago. I have always had a super slow metabolism and had a hell of a time keeping my weight from ballooning out of control. When I stopped drinking it a few months ago my weight dropped very quickly and I find I can eat more like a normal person rather that having to starve myself and still am loosing weight. I had no idea it was the milk all along that was keeping me fat. Dont drink milk if you want to lose weight.

Of course the milk industry wants us to believe that drinking milk will help us lose weight, but there is not one valid study to prove anything of the sort.

Milk is very high in calories, as it is designed to nourish a huge growing baby Cow! If you regularly drink milk, but exercise regularly and have a healthy diet otherwise, you are going to be OK. However, milk is the number one food allergy producer. Drinking milk occasionally or in light moderation should be alright, unless you are extremely sensitive to 'lactose', the milk sugar in milk.

Good luck and God bless!

I was always under the impression that milk makes you gain weight. After all, milk is high in saturated fat, and so drinking lots of milk will not help lose weight, but gain strong bones...
Of course, be aware of the type of milk you're drinking too. Regular, 2%, fat free...

Milk itself is not going to cause you to lose weight. There are a lot of factors involved with weight loss-total fat/calorie consumption, amount of activity in a day, etc.

The type of milk you drink also affects your weight. If you drink whole milk, that is more calorie consumption and more you have to burn off. If you drink skim milk, then that is very low in calories and less concern about total daily calorie intake.

Milk is good to drink in the fact that it has calcium and that is good for your bones and something you should consume everyday.

got it?

It could help, but not if you drink it all the time or if it's whole milk. Try skim milk as much as possible. But, it's not necessarily the milk that helps, it's the well-balanced diet. You don't need the milk if you are eating lots of cheese or yogurt or other dairy products. A lot of people are lacking in the dairy portion of their diet, hence the reason for the commercials. Just don't overdo it too much.

Stay away from all soy products as they only serve to turn your bones to aspic (jelly) and does nothing to strengthen your bones. Goats milk is by far healthier for you to drink than lite milk, or 1% milk, or slim milk etc...as the cellular make up is smaller than regular milk your body will not have to struggle to digest it. I have never heard of milk either putting on or helping with the losing of weight.

If you want to loose weight eat lots of healthy foods that are red, orange and or yellow in colour. Stay away from all junk foods as much as you can. You will not starve and you can eat as much as you want. If your stomach is getting larger you may be wheat intolerant, lots of us are nowadays, its due to the highly over processing of the grain.

Good luck with your endeavour.

It's not a "miracle fat burner" but a glass of lowfat milk with your meals can help you feel fuller and more satisfied. It will also give you essential vitamins and minerals that will help your body simply run better. However, being a woman, you should incorporate 3 servings of dairy into your diet every day as women are at a higher risk of osteoporosis.

Some research suggests that drinking more milk may help some people lose weight. How? It appears that dairy products contain certain substances — including calcium — that may help regulate weight loss. But much more research is needed to determine what, if any, role milk and other dairy products may play in weight loss.

A number of studies have examined the possible connection between dairy and weight loss. Some studies indicate that people who incorporate dairy products into a reduced-calorie diet lose more weight than do those who restrict calories but consume little or no dairy. However, other studies have shown no effect on weight loss from dairy intake. In addition, one study involving children showed weight gain with increased dairy intake.

The debate on this controversial issue is far from over. Although there is some evidence that getting three servings a day of low-fat or fat-free dairy products can enhance weight loss, this evidence is not conclusive. However, even if further evidence shows that dairy products have little effect on weight loss, they are still good sources of calcium, which is essential for bone health.

Stocking the refrigerator with milk, cheese, and yogurt may make it easier to lose those extra pounds and burn fat without cutting back drastically on calories, according to new research.

Although calories still count, the study showed that obese adults who ate a high-dairy diet lost significantly more weight and fat than those who ate a low-dairy diet containing the same number of calories.

"If you compare a dairy-rich versus a dairy-poor diet you can nearly double the rate of weight and fat loss with the same level of calorie restriction," says researcher Michael Zemel, PhD, professor of nutrition and medicine at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.

Zemel says the study also showed that eating three to four servings of dairy products a day is more effective at enhancing weight loss efforts than calcium supplementation alone with pills or calcium-fortified foods.

The study appears in the April issue of Obesity Research and was supported by the National Dairy Council, a WebMD sponsor.

Previous studies have already shown that dieters who eat a calcium-rich diet are more successful at losing weight, but this study indicates that it's more than just the calcium in dairy products that helps shed pounds.

"Calcium is a critical factor in controlling what your body does with calories, and dairy is an even more critical factor," says Zemel. "Without changing how many calories we take away, we can alter how much weight and fat you lose."
