Theology is an intellectual pursuit regarding an uncaused creative intelligence.
Religion is a spiritual pursuit regarding an uncaused creative intelligence.
You didn't ask but science is an intellectual pursuit regarding the laws of the created universe. Science necessarily cannot examine questions beyond the beginning or ending of space-time.
Each of these three pursuits can benefit the others.

I'd say a religion is any set of beliefs held by faith. A religion doesn't necessarily have to involve a God, from this perspective. Also, the term 'religion' developed several connotations that don't really belong to theology. For example, you can say of someone that they religiously wash their car every day. Again, God is not necessarily involved. Although most people prefer to use terms like "cult" when referring to non-theistic religions.
Meanwhile, when speaking of theology, you have to have God. The root term 'theo' is short for 'theos' which translates to "God." That said, there can be a relationship between theology and religion, its just not necessary. If your religion involves the study of God, then you have religion with theology.
On the other hand, you could be an atheistic theologian. Just because you study God doesn't necessarily imply you believe in one.
