It depends on what you're doing. If you have a point to point system, there aren't many disadvantages. With $50 24db antennas, you shouldn't have to worry much about sharing spectrum. With a pair of those and two Hyperlink amps (and line of sight) you can make a strong 30 mile link for a whole lot less money and aggravation than getting a licensed frequency would cost you.

1. You'd be stepping on the toes of the legitimate licensee of that part of the spectrum -- his broadcasts would interfere with yours, and vice versa.
2. The men from FCC enforcement come and find you, and take away your equipment. Then you pay a whopping big fine.

It would be utter chaos...Imagine walking into a crowded room and everybody is talking; it would be next to impossible to hold a conversation with somebody...You'll have to shout, which is the same as emitting higher power transmission.

1.Its UNLICENSED!
2.Probrably no warranty on it.
3.Loses connection very easily.
