My fiance and i are in a disagreement with the bridesmaids dresses. I would like my girls to choose the dress they want as long as it is the color i choose. He wants the girls to wear the same dress but they get to choose the color of the dress (in our wedding colors of course). What do you all think?

Wow! My fiancee and I are going through the same exact thing! I finally gave up and decided to have my matron of honor and bridesmaids in the same dress and just have my matron of honor in a different color than the bridesmaids. Good luck!

I think he isn't the one paying for or wearing the dress so maybe he should reconsider his opinion. I think it's great that you are trying to give your girls a choice so that they can be comfortable with the gown they have to wear. Also, your color scheme will look much better than his, because with his idea you'll end up with 4-8 different colors depending on how bridesmaids you have, not a good look. All that being said, how about separates, you pick out a skirt (a-line looks good on everyone) in the fabric you like and let the girls pick a top that they feel good in. This way you have a bit more control over the whole look of the wedding but the girls will still be comfortable. I suggest Eden separates, they have a much larger choice than Davids. good luck

I think the dresses should be similar atleast the same color or all the bridesmaids have the same dress and the matron of honor can have a different dress but all the same color. We all know all girls don't have the same body structure but if you go to Davids Bridal website they have a section on seperates and you can mix and match tops and bottoms but you choose the color. That might help and maybe you and your fiance can go on the website together and look and agree on something.

I let my girls choose their own dresses and i picked the color. It worked out very well.....and they all decided to wear the same dress. They are all the same body type though, so they all looked great in the same dress. Just make sure your fiance' realizes that not all body types look good in the same dress, plus your bridesmaids will apreciate being able to choose the style of the dress they have to pay for.

I think you need to look at your bridesmaids... do they all have similar builds or is one a size 0 and one a size 16? If they vary a lot in figure type, then you want to let them pick a dress that works for their body. A lot of brides will have the Maid of Honor where a different color than the rest of the bridal party. However, having all different colors throughout can look off.

If your fiance is stuck on the idea of all the same dress look for tea dresses. They are fitted on the top and have A-line bottoms (usually flattering on most women). It will give curves to the curveless, and hide flaws for the ones with not-so-perfect figures. A tea dress should be about mid-calf length.

I HATE rainbow weddings. Also, have them wear the same dress. I had my girls go and try on every dress in the store and had them tell me what they liked/disliked. Then I chose a dress in the color I wanted, in the style they wanted. It was beautiful and all the girls loved the dress. I know of a few of them wearing them again for different functions. It's YOUR bridesmaids, he has no say in what happens with them.

I have other bride allow their bridesmaids to select their own dress and most times this becomes a disaster. A good compromise would be to select 2 or 3 styles that come in the same color and fabric and allow them to choose form those 3. Same with accessories. Be sure to select three styles that will complement differing figure types. If you need help as the bridal shop salesperson.

How many bridesmaids do you have? I talked (okay, e-mailed, since 2 of them each live 2+ hours away in different directions) with mine to make sure they felt comfortable with their dresses- they all decided on one dress, in the same color, and the same style of shoes. I picked out several dress and shoe ideas, and they came to a consensus on what they liked. The idea was that they'd be able to wear them again.

When it came to that type of decision, my hubby had no say. I chose the color of the dresses, but I let the girls pick out the dress because they all had differant body types. I wanted them to be happy and comfortable, and be able to wear it some other time to some other occassion since they had to buy it. A good way to get the dresses is during and after prom and homecoming. There will be tons of dresses in tons of styles and tons of colors!

I just dealt with this problem, but it was my bridesmaids that were arguing with me! I wanted them all in the same dress in one of two colors... dark blue or soft yellow. They complained because the dress that I had picked out only flattered a certain body type. Once we went to the shop and they all tried on the dress I had picked out I saw that it was better for them to pick out the style of the dress as long as it was still in my colors. The pictures came out better too! So, I would recommend taking either all or at least two of your bridesmaids (opposite body types) and your fiance to the dress shop and have them try on first the same dress and then dresses of their choice. See which you guys like best and go that direction.
