Well, my husband is currently in Iraq and will be until Oct. 2007. I have been through this once before and let me tell you it isn't easy, but its even harder on him. I want you to tell your brother "thank you very much for his dedication and service to our country" for me. I also want to thank you for your families wonderful support to our military men and women.
1. Have your family and friends get together and make your brother a scrapbook of how you guys are spending the holidays. Take pictures of everything, kids in Halloween costumes, the Thanksgiving dinner, guys watching the football games, family opening presents at Christmas, etc. Put all the pictures in order in a scrapbook and write cute sayings and captions and then send it to him. This is a sweet and fun way too show him you are thinking of him and letting him feel like he is with you during the special times.
2. Make him a care package with cute little gifts that coordinate with the holiday, like for a Halloween package send him candy that relates to Halloween, also include a Halloween card signed by his loved ones.
3. *This one is for you and your family at home* Get everyone together, get out the old pictures, and just have a wonderful night of stories about your brother growing up and the special memories that people remember about him. This is really helpful in making you feel closer to him.
Hope this helps and God bless your brother for his service!!!

I agree with making him a care package. Putting in personal things and knowing that you're doing something special for him during the holidays will make you feel better, but he will also be really happy to get it.
You can also send him some holiday pictures of your family and let him know you are always thinking of him.

Just make sure you are thinking of him during to holidays.
I have been away for 2 Christmas' so far and I have also missed my daughters bday 3 out of the 5 that she has had. Its just something that comes with the job and you have to accept. When I was gone it just turned into another day for me.

It's hard but the care package idea is great. Get everyone to write a letter to include in the package. You get through it, but you will miss him and he will miss you.

make him a 'care' package, let him know you are thinking good thoughts for him... this is not unusual, just trust he will be OK, and next holiday together make it something special
