VCD uses MPEG 1 video compression and was a specification for video on regular CDs.
They use a 352x240 (NTSC) picture resolution and use a low picture information bit rate of under 2 megabits per second.

SVCD or Super VCD uses MPEG 2 video compression and can use a higher video resolution of up to 720x480 (NTSC) and the bit rates can go up to around 12 megabits per second.
SVCD files can also support DVD-style chapters and other special features.

If you're recording stuff with a video capture card, I'd recommend using MPEG2 format at 720x480 or 704x480. There is a very noticable difference between the MPEG1 and MPEG2 video resolutions. 352x240's video is too fuzzy.

SVCD:-
SVCDs provide good fidelity, but they only playback on DVD players which support the SVCD format. Check your DVD player's user manual to determine whether it supports the SVCD format. To make an SVCD, you must have a CD or DVD burner and use a blank CD-R or CD-RW media disc.

VCD:-
