When my son asked, I told him that the baby grew from an egg cell that was already in my tummy and I showed him pictures from a book of just the magnified egg so that he wouldn't think 'chicken egg'. It was months before he asked :what made it start growing?" I told him "the egg cell had to connect with a tiny cell from dad (again I showed him pictures of magnified sperm), and then it had all the information it needed to grow a baby". He asked "how did the dad cell get to the egg?" I said "it came out of dad's body, and went in mine because we wanted to have your baby brother". He still hasn't asked for the mechanics of that, he is almost 5.

I remember when my son asked me that the first time. I told him, "God puts the baby in there!"
That was enough for him, and he's never asked again. He's only 7 now.

A 5 year old is too young to know or see all the details. It could tramatize her.
