Lie flat on your back on a firm, but not hard, mattress. Put a rolled up towel under your neck and another one under your knees. It should fit comfortably and not raise your head or knees up. Don't put a pillow under your head. Try to take calming breaths and relax, and lie this way for at least 15 minutes and try to do it several times a day. This is what my uncle used to do when I was a kid, and now I do it and it really works. It also works well if I'm having neck pain or a tension headache. A hot bath might work, but the position you have to be in to lie back in a tub isn't really a good one if you are having back pain.

I know this seems crazy and like a doctor but unless you have a illness with some spinal injury, your best bet is to exercise daily and even if it is just walking it helps really great I went through back therapy and all the doctor visits and I just started to walk a little daily and it helped alot
