Fasting is a personal thing for each person. As a Christian I can pass up one or many meals. I allow myself to be led by the Holy Spirit. Instead of eating, I will try to find a place to pray. If I'm not able to do that then I offer up a silent prayer in my heart.

there are certain fast-days in judaism. you abstain from food and drink. you're allowed to wake up early to cram in food, so long as you went to sleep intending to do it. fasts begin at 72 minutes before sunrise. pregnant, nursing, and sickly people are exempted.
