I need an apartment. I can't share a room because I have two small children, and I am disabled and can't work full time. I am currently in college and the apartment complex I live in is so awful and dirty. Section 8 is closed so I can not get on that, and I will never have three times the rent and don't have a co-signer, but I can afford to pay $600 a month. Does anyone know of any places online, other than Craigslist (been there) that I can search for housing in San Jose that is affordable? I am getting desperate to move someplace clean and safe while I finish my BA.

i know times are hard especially being a singel mother!! first of all props to you:) your a strong woman and second apply for housing! ask around find out where your financial assistance programs are and apply for housing it takes a couple months sometimes but you can also apply for health insurance for yourself and your children and also food stamps! try getting on the internet and looking up financial assistance housing! GOOD LUCK

Can you look into temporary housing in your area. I would call your local goverment offices and see if there is something. I know here there are apartments that are sort of rent control so that the lower class can afford to live, meaning if you make over the cap you can't live there.

Here is the link for the goverment site you should check out. I hope this helps. http://www.sjhousing.org/

Try checking into a trailer court, there are usually low income trailers around there that even let you rent to own. That way you can usually set your own rent per month. Just talk to a manager, that's how we got settled into a place. Also there's www.realtor.com and www.rent.com.

Hopefully you'll find something good luck!
