Hello!! :o) I hope you're OK. Before Adam and Eve ate from the tree of knowledge - they were naked. And they were not ashamed. Many believe that in response to their sin - they became ashamed of their physical nakedness. Adam [for instance] was embarrassed by the fact that his penis was exposed. But I say... it had nothing to do with his [or her] private parts. What they were trying to cover up - and keep [in vain] from God seeing - was their character - WHO they were as human beings. It has nothing to do with being nude. What do YOU say?! Have a great day!! Craig!! :o)

Craig, Good question. I cannot say that I have ever pondered the issue of nakedness and shame of Adam and Eve. This is an interesting subject. I think you may be on to something. However several mentions in the later part of the Old Testament (prophetic books) talk of the shame of Isreal and compared them to a woman who exposed her nakedness to the nations and commited adultry with them when they were the bride of God.

I think there is more to nakedness that just being naked. This is symbolic, I believe, of our shame. Nakedness (with a spouse) is one of the most intimate and secretive trusts couples have. Just as we hide our imperfect bodies under clothes, so we hide our imperfect heart under our outward appearance toward men.

Jesus saw the hearts of everyone he spoke with. He knew what they were thinking and what their intentions were when they tried to trick him into saying something that they could turn around on him. This is a scarey thought for some who think nobody knows what they think in their hearts.

I think their shame was not only physical, but also spiritual. The clothes they wore were also an indication that they were ashamed of what they had done and ashamed of what they had become.

Great point. Way to get into the "meat" of the Word.

God Bless.

I think its about being naked. Until they were naked, they NEVER knew that htey were. If they never sinned, we would have been living life naked also. But once u sin u realize that bad and ht good and adam and eve when they sinned immediately realized that they were naked. If they never did then they wouldn't cover htmselves. But when sin enterd the earth, there became a right and wrong adn the thing of being naked made them realize that they were wrong and naked. I don't thinkit has to do with trying to hide anythgin else. But i can ask someone for u.

Adam and Eve sewed fig leaves together to cover their nakedness (Gen 3:6-11). They knew at that time their genitals and their entire bodies were physically exposed and they were ashamed of it. God had pity on them and clothed their bodies with animal skins (Gen 3:21). God would not have helped them hide their character.

When Adam and Eve partook of the fruit, they became mortal beings and were following the commandments to multiply and replenish the earth. Before the fruit they were living in total innocence and were immortal. After they partook of the fruit they knew opposition in all things...good and bad, evil and righteousness.

Well before they didn't know they were naked. Well they knew but they didn't think anything of it. Afterwards they became ashamed. Makes sense actually
