it can take a while. There are new products on the market that can help dred-loc your hair, but I used a base of animal fat and lots of good smelling oils to help loc my hair...USE IT SPAREINGLY or you just smell like a deep fat fryer, something also good to help with that is olive oil...but then you smell like pasta. You can try essentuial oils too...just keep alot of rice paper around and rub your locks out well with it so you dont look like you fell head first into a oil vat. The best way to clean you dreads after you get is "smokeing" them, it goes along with the way smoaking meat works get a bag, and put it over your hair and get like 10 sticks of incense you dont mind smelling like and carefully funnel the smoke from the incense into the bag and let your hair sit in the smoke for 30 min, make sure to keep it thick in the bag and the smoke will get all the crud and bactiria out of your hair, and you smell like a church have fun dude!
