Be careful! Dry socket is more painful than a sore gum and rinsing and spitting with anything, including warm salt water, can cause the blood clot to dislodge and dry socket occur. Also, I was always told that dry socket is very painful. Well, it is, but not as painful as an abscessed tooth. So when I had my last extraction, I went several days with dry socket before seeking treatment because I thought it should hurt even more than it did if it truly was dry socket.

Extractions aren't supposed to hurt much after the first few days, so if the pain continues or gets worse, please go back to your doctor.

Good luck feeling better and use the pain drugs if you can!

Get some OraJel or other Benzocaine 20% product and put a little on a gauze square. Fold the gauze up and bite on it the same way you did after you had the tooth taken out.
