I used to be a State Farm Insurance Agent. I assure you that your insurance company will find out about the ticket. There are only five states that do not share reporting and unfortunately neither of the states involved are on that list. If you can get it removed from your record or reduced you should. 20 MPH over the limit is a major infraction. The officer who wrote the ticket had the option to give you a reckless driving charge on the spot. Your insurance company will not only see that you received a ticket but they will be able to see how many miles over the limit you were. ~Side note~ The DMV will not just automatically report this ticket to your insurance company. Every insurance company has different guidelines for pulling your record. Some automatically pull your record at renewal (6 month or annual depending on state and insurance company guidelines) some carriers check when you make a change to your policy, and some may check if you pay late. If you get this reduced or removed from your record prior to a record check they will have no way of knowing you recieved the ticket.

I just had a friend who was arrested last week for failure to appear because the lawyer she hired failed to take care of her speeding ticket. Call the clerk of court in the county in which you received the ticket. They will tell you if you have a warrant. If they can't, the sheriff's department in that county can. Be prepared to post a bail. You may actually be arrested for failure to appear, but should be allowed to post bail immediately. If you mail the fine for the ticket that still would clear any failure to appear warrant although that charged may be dropped once you address the issue in person.

Call the court. You may find out that you have warrant out for your arrest. If you then pay the fine the warrant will be canceled.
It's best you do this now rather than getting stopped and arrest at a very inconvenient time.

Ok, you did not show up in court, pay the fine or do anything???
I surely hope you at least appeared in court.
If you did not appear in court most likely they issue a bench warrant for your arrest. ( some courts don't, most do)
Next of course what would have been a 200 dollar fine will most likely be closer to 1000 dollars now.
If you can't pay, you show up in court and make arrangemnets to make payments on the fine.
You go down to the court house where the fine was to be paid and you go in and tell them you need to make arrangements to pay the fine. ( expect it to be much much larger by now

call the police department phone number on the back of the ticket and ask what you need to do, if you did not pay the ticket or failed to show for court they would have issued a warrant for you. I am in Texas and they have kiosks in the malls here where we can go pay our outstanding tickets, they may have something similar in illinois for you guys ... just check, as long as your trying to take care of your obligations they are going to work with you.

At this point you probably have a warrant for your arrest for failure to appear. You need to go IN PERSON to your local court house and tell them your situation and that you can now pay the ticket. That was really stupid to just not pay it by the way. They should be able to clear it up then.

You might want to think about calling the clerk of court there at your court house and ask the clerk what you need to do. Don't just mail it in. It is too late for that. Here in NC when you miss your court date they also suspend your drivers license so there might be more you need to do than just pay the ticket. The clerk of court will be able to tell you what you need to do.

You can go to your district court and say you missed the court date. Pay the fine there, in person and they will let you reschedule the court date.
Fight every ticket! Even if you just go to plead guilty, if its your first or second time the judge will forgive the points and refund your fine!

If you don't take care of this quickly you will be issued a bench warrant. Just go to the court and tell them what you told us. I feel sure the fine will be more now than when it was due, but go to them before they come after you.

you may need to see a judge. and there may be other fines now or interest. and there may be an arrest warrant out for you now but that most likely will be taken care of when the fines are paid.
