Why does my kitten's litter smell like strong vinegar/gasoline type smell? I use the paper pellets, "yesterday's news", and I clean it out, the next day it seems to smell again!

I "adopted" my kittens, and they are 6 months old, I have had them since August!!! They are not brand new.

After we had my cat declawed, the vet recommended that kind of cat litter until her paws healed up, and that stuff lets the whole house smell! Even if you clean it often, it will still smell bad. If at all possible, I recommend one of the regular clay litters or crystal litter. Those catch the smell and when you clean the mess, the smell goes too. Hope it helps!

I use Fresh Step and have two cats, one of which I have had since she was a kitten. A cat/kittens pee smells really strong. Make sure you clean the litter box regularly. Fresh Step works well for my cats. As long as I put fresh litter into the box every few days and remove feces daily it does not stick.

It must be the type of litter in combination with the urine. I always use (cheap) clay litter with baking soda added. You can buy baking soda in large boxes in the detergent aisle cheap. Some say the dust from the clay litter isn't good, but I've had cats using clay litter for years and years and none of them have had any problems. Clump litter smells more from my experience.

It smells like that because kittens tend to smell the first couple of weeks and if they are bathed they probably won't smell as bad.

try fresh step..
that may help..
have you spoken with your vet about the cat litter you use, and asked for suggestions.. not everything that is out there is as good for the animal as they say.

kittens are too small to elevate themselves above their litter....some excrement gets in their fur. Until they are old enough to clean themselves well you need to help...children's diaper wipes work!!!!(for pee not poop)
