My vet told me to give my dog glucosamine and chondroitin to help his joint health. You can get that as a supplement at the pet store or use regular Osteo Biflex. Also, some quality foods have it added. I feed Nutro Naturals lamb and rice food and it is added to the food. For pain I give him buffered aspirin, the vet said it has to be buffered. BEFORE YOU GIVE HIM ANYTHING PLEASE ASK YOUR VET FOR THE CORRECT DOSAGES AND TO BE SURE IT DOESN'T INTERACT WITH ANYTHING ELSE HE TAKES!!!

Never NEVER give a dog Tylenol, they can't handle it. Give him a combination of Glucosamine/Chondroitin (Probably about 750 mg of Glucosamine to start) and MSM (about the same dosage). I have a 14 year old dog that acts about 5 or 6 because her arthiritis pain is gone due to the regimen described above. It's also helped my dog with hip dysplasia to be pain free. I just get the Glucosamine in bulk at Sam's. It isn't necessary to pay twice as much at the vet when it's the same stuff!

I get this type of medication from my vet. The medications isn't just to relieve pain they are also inflammatory. Why would one just give pain medication to relieve the pain, but not actually treat the problem. These two drugs are combined with pain/inflammatory medication. Ask your vet about Rimidyl and/or Deramax. They are both great medicines. You'll probably only have to use 1-2 pills a day. Good luck and I hope your dog is feeling much better real soon.

I have a nine year old lab and my vet recommended ascription from the drug store. Mine only needs one pill a day. It's a coated aspirin. I told the neighbor about it and she bought some for her shepard and he's doing a lot better on it. The best part is it any costs around $10.00.

Never give human medication to a dog, while some meds ARE dog safe, the dosages are much different. You can get glucosamine/chondroitin through your vet, for about the cost of human meds, but in the proper form and dosage for dogs.

DO NOT GIVE TYLENOL It is poison to a dog. You can give him 1500 mg of glucosomine/condrotin (available at Wal-mart cheaper than from the vet) I paid nearly 20 dollars for 144 pills to be given once a day. Your vet may suggest higher dose.

Cod liver oil in his dinner. Make sure you always keep his feet and legs dry. And you can ask your vet about aspirin, this is what we had to give our great dane. Ask your vet for a dosage, as all dogs are different.
