Does any one know where I can get a good Diet Specifically designed for MMA? I know some basics like eat protien and carbs after your workout. but I want a site that breaks it down like what foods to eat before you train after you train while your not training etc.

Please give me a site rather than personal opinion because what is good for some isn't always good for others.

A diet for MMA is basically the same type of sports nutrition as anything else (with the exception of super endurance type stuff like long distance runners).

First of all, you didn't say what your goals are. Do you want to gain weight? Maintain your weight? Lose body fat? Do you want optimal energy?

Your diet should be rich in lean protein and low-glycemic carbohydrates. (I'll post a link that shows all of these). You want to drink a lot of water....shoot for a gallon a day.

Before you train you want to eat a carb to give you energy. (carbs have one function, period, and that is to provide energy). I will eat a yogurt and an apple, or a banana and a granola bar or something like that an hour and a half before training. I found out the hard way that if I only wait an hour, I'll feel like I'm gonna puke while training because it's so brutal.

During training, I have a container of half gatorade, and half water. Gatorade is outstanding at replacing the glycogen you're burning during training, but it's not good at hydrating you, believe it or not. It's not some fringe thing I do to mix 1/2 gatorade and 1/2 water...my brother who is a personal trainer (and BJJ blue belt) and my nutrition professor both told me the same thing about mixing gatorade with water and they both said this independently of each other.

After your workout, you need to replace your glycogen stores. Glycogen is what your muscles burn to provide you energy by the way. Once you get your glycogen back to equilibrium, then you can eat a good meal and get the most out of it nutrition wise of lean protein, low-glycemic carbs, and fibrous vegetables ... So put it this way, after you're done training drink something high-glycemic (I drink the other half of the gatorade I didn't mix in water) then by the time I get home 15-20 minutes later I can have a healthy meal.

Anyway, have a look at this website, it is very helpful for what your question is and lists many high and low glycemic carbs:

Enjoy!

Excellent advice Edward!

I would also recommend getting a free account at www.elitefitness.com and asking there. it is a bodybuilding site primarily, but has forums on everything. being a bobdybuilding site, diet is discussed all the time. there are diets posted for various purposes by the members. straight up, go check it out.
