Did the first European immigrants to the Americas, learned the native American languages and adapted to them?

When the Europeans came it was a country of Babel, to many Indian tribes and each had a different language, I am sure some did learn Indians languages, But in the southwest some spoke Spanish, and in the south some spoke French, no one could speak every Indian language. English became the most spoken language, and still is, we cannot have a country of Babel, one Nation one Language, get the hell over it. don't like it then get the hell out. Why is it just Mexicans complaining all the other immigrants learned English, whine, whine whine.

Europe tried to settle the east coast several times before they actually could. The beginning of the settlers were there to clear land, ship product back to europe and make money. very few women made it to America for several years. To truely be called an immigrant one must have the intention of staying and living there. This can't be without women, so you have to consider the beginning point of what immigration is. I know my old professors would all consider the first sucess for colony was actually when women started ariving in I believe in mid 17th century to late. at any rate, by them boundaries had been established. Most people are under the impression that settling america was a unified effort when it fact it was nothing of the sort.

American settlements varied from place to place but for the most part indians were treated with respect and paid for work, traded with and treated like human beings. Intergration was not the case in most situations though. they brought europe with them. The people who intergrated with the indians the most would be the french. Fur trading lasted decades and the french relied on indian culture, kindness and guidance to fuel it. many missionaries adapted to indian life and stayed until death. Many did.......there was no universal American Indian language. The Indians did help them learn how to survive in this country. But again, as so many have said.......the year is 2006. Remember Thanksgiving? No laws were broken back then, they are now. There were, for lack of better words, nicer tribes that didn't hate the newcommers. Others did and for good reason. We did horrible things, they did horrible things......no one was perfect. Not one culture on the face of this Earth has a perfect past. Get over it. This is mindless and stupid. There weren't that many people on Earth at that time. It was a few thousand people on a not so populated continet vs MILLIONS now in a country that is well populated. It holds water about as well as, since Africa is starving and there's genocide there, our African Americans should be grateful that we brought them here against there will back then and made them slaves because look at where Africa is now. Read history, learn from it , strive to do better, but you can't make people responsible now for something that happened centuries ago or make it an excuse for wrongs done now. Things become successful because they work. We know what doesn't work and we're still working on what does. If you want perfection then you best start planning for the afterlife coz it's not happening here. Seriously.....has this country been sprayed with something that has made simple "common sense", null and void? Wanna go back to "ugh" and a club and fight the wars all over again?

Yes actually a lot of people did.Each tribe had its own language so there were lots to learn.Some English words had no meaning in the Indian languages.Some had no written form either.But it was much more practical for the settlers to speak English
