Tanturms in children?

I have a 6 year that is throwing a tantrum and i have a 4 month old that had a medical precedure done today and is in pain and trying to sleep how do get the 6 year old to stop. I have ignored him, talk to him closed his door turned his tv off. Whatelse can i do?

Tell him quietly and firmly that if he doesn't knock off the nonsense, he will stand in the corner for time-out. First time is one minute per year of age, so 6 minutes. The second time is two minutes per year of age, so 12 minutes. If he insists on acting like a little jerk after the time-outs, tell him that this is his last chance ... if he continues to act out, you will have no choice but to put him to bed early because obviously he is too tired to listen and mind. And then follow through.

All children throw tantrums that's normal. But it should have stopped after they turned 4. When my girls were under 4 years old and threw a tantrum they would be made to go to time out (on there bed until they could calm down)

After 4 years of age, and defiantly at 6, they would get a spanking after they calmed down. They need to know it's no longer tolerated at his age.

FIND OUT WHAT HE WANT. SOMETHING IS GOING ON WITH HIM. HE IS OLD ENOUGH TO SAY THAT HE WANT A CERTAIN THING UNLESS HE IS FEELING THAT THE BABY IS GETTING ALL OF THAT ATTENTION. WHEN YOU CAN, JUST TAKE HIM BY HIMSELF TO LET HIM SEE THAT YOU DO STILL CARE. JUST TO GIVE HIM A LITTLE TIME ALONE WITH YOU. LET HIM HELP YOU WITH THE BABY SOMETIMES. LIKE HANDING YOU THE SOAP, LOTION, POWDER OR WHATEVER YOU NEED WHEN BATHING THE BABY SO HE WONT FEEL LEFT OUT. IF THOSE ARE YOUR ONLY TWO CHILDREN, HE HAS BEEN USE TO HAVING YOU ALL TO HIMSELF.
