I had pneumonia for about a month. At first the doctor didnt even check me, said I had a cold, and to get over it. I had a 104 fever for a week, plus I couldnt breathe and had horrible body aches for 2 weeks, so i finally went back in and requested that he do chest x-rays. Sure enough, I had pneumonia, and he gave me antibiotics, which I took all of, just like I was supposed to. Well, its been about a month since then and my cough never went away. There are days that I cough A LOT, like the past few days, and there is mucus too. I sometimes wheeze when I breathe, and I can tell there is still gunk in my lungs. But other than the coughing, I feel totally fine, no other symptoms. Any idea what is going on? Does pneumonia linger like this? Did I catch it again?

I had it too, for almost two months. If you took your ani-boitics you should be fine. Keep your chest covered up. Your lungs are just recovering. There may be a cold lingering, but as long as your temperature is normal and you can breathe, don't worry about it. Drink fluids and orange juice.

You might still have stuff in your lungs, and need a puffer/inhaler to get it out. It is Albuterol and is what they give asthma patients, you just carry it with you and take some puffs which open up your lungs. It only goes into your lungs, so no where else. You might also need some more antibiotics. Be sure this year to get the pneumonia shot, it lasts for 5 yrs. Sometimes it is hard to get over pneumonia, request another x-ray to see if you are completely over it. Your doctor does not seem very good, I would get another one. Anyone with 104 degrees belongs in the hospital

it can take up to two months to recover fully from pnuemonia. The infection causes massive inflammation of the lungs and that doesn't just go away. Drink lots of water, at least 2 liters a day to help wash the effects of inflammation out of your body and keep your secretions thin so they remain easy to get rid of. Get adequate rest. Give it another month, you will start to feel better.
