Employment is booming in Western Australia (WA) at the moment. They have such a shortage of skilled labour that they are recruiting many people from overseas.
The pay at the regional mines is fantastic and the conditions are pretty good where everything is provided for you. I have a couple of brothers working at open-cut mines and they're on AU$90,000.00 a year. There's a building boom on here too and it feels like the whole state is under construction at the moment. I've put some links to job sites for Australia below. I've also included a link to a website that has real estate for sale right across the nation. It's an excellent link and I think you should check it out.
American's getting Aussie citizenship at the moment is pretty easy as long as you're prepared to stick it out for a few years and stay in a steady job. Getting married to an Australian doesn't help you qualify and you will be deported if you overstay your visa - even if you have children. Yes, they are quite ruthless.

As in the USA real estate values vary with locality. I've seen houses sell here recently for a million but they are at or near the top end of the local market. I live 20 minutes walk from a major employment centre and a large shopping mall. There is an elementary school five minutes walk away (set to close unfortunately) with a convenience store, small children's play area, sports ground, restaurant, local general practice medico nearby. There are Catholic and government high schools within twenty or thirty minutes walk.
A natural gas pipeline and a coaxial cable for phone, I'net and cable TV runs past the door. Power supply is 240V 50Hz and reliable. It went off the other day as some work was being done - must have been off 8 minutes. That's the only power cut for months and the previous one lasted about as long.
The land the house is on has recently been valued for tax purposes at over AU$290,000 (that's about US$217,500). Market value of course would be higher. This city's population is about 270,000. The house is an older one with three bedrooms and one bathroom, separate garage, brick construction, tile roof, central heating on a gas furnace.
Very few Australian houses have basements or more than one floor. Many vaguely resemble the "California bungalow".
There are several real estate dealers (realtors) who operate nearly Australia-wide, look for websites for "The Professionals" and "LJ Hooker" among other reputable companies.
In country towns you can get good houses for around AU$120,000. It all depends on whether the population is growing and how much work there is. I've heard of one whole village being sold for a few thousand, which was a local sensation here a few months ago.
There is plenty of work in construction. There are two low-rise buildings going up and another almost completed not far from the shopping mall I just mentioned. Same thing is going on in Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne and even in some of the larger country towns.
If you mean road etc construction, well there is plenty of that as well and also open-cut mining which uses some of the same skills. Also construction of gas lines in various parts of the country.
Americans with work skills and without criminal records should find it easy enough to move here. On Sunday I met an ex-US marine who seems to have settled here recently, at least for the time being. Another man I know has been here several years, he comes from Massachusetts I think he said. One of my teenage pals was born in Seattle. There are plenty of Americans who have settled here or make Australia a second home.
Citizenship has required at least 4 years residence though there has been a move recently to tighten things up a bit, maybe put in a minimum competence in English. You should have no trouble with that.

If your moving from the states you should have enough money to set your self up with your own house and car, ( the Australian Dream) typically Australian homes don't have two bath rooms but three bedroom homes are easy to find. house prices will vary in major cities, from $500,000AU to a million, larger country towns house start at $250,00AU to 450,000AU, which is what i would suggest, places like Newcastle which is were i am from or the GOLD COAST for the young lifestyle, the surf, women & weather.

probably not. your parents needed to check with the HOA & for any CC&R's, restrictive covenants, etc. get your agent to give you a copy of the CC&R's, and reveiw them. also get a copy of the HOA paperwork, etc & review. as always, consult with a realtor, a real estate attorney, & any other professionals.
