No, not the root of all evil... but definitely a powerful driving force for evil.

Religion can be evil in the wrong hands. However, I think the "they" you are referring to, are to those that practice religion. My question is, if you have such a problem with religion, then why do you seem to spend most of your time and energy focusing on it? If you don't believe then don't believe and just leave well enough alone. That is your right, is it not? Why spend most time trying to disprove it? Are you not doing what the so called "religous people" do, when trying to get their point across? If this is the case then you are no different then those you feel try to push their views down your throat. You are doing the same thing just from a different side of the board. Think about it.

Actually there have been many atheistic, deistic, and theistic philosophers including einstien himself which realized the helpfulness of religion. Some have even feared what the world would be like if there wasnt any as witnessed by the 20th century with Stalinist Russia, Cambodia, and Africa. There is a a clear visible link between atheism and tyranny no doubt about it.

I guess you just have to examine what each religion brings to the table and which advocates evil and which teaches goodness. Only then will you find the truth; Jesus Christ.

No, selfishness is the root of all evil. Many evils have been commited without any religious involvement. Politics, land ownership, racial prejudice and other conditions are often used as excuses for violence or other forms of evil. When religion or any other idea is used to make people believe they are better than someone else, it becomes an excuse for evil. If a organized crime gang kills members of other gangs who are competing for their drug trade, what does that have to do with religion?

I think there is plenty of evil outside of religion, but I believe that religion is 100% evil. Though the intentions of some religious people may be misunderstood, the results of their actions are destructive. The force outweighs any good intent. I define "evil" as harm to others through self-serving actions.

"Money is the root of all evil"? Money is the root of ALL RELIGION.

So religion is evil because you believe it is evil? What about what I believe? What about your next-door neighbor's beliefs? Who defines what we should all believe?

Don't try to tell me that truth is what you believe it is because you won't accept my answer. My answer is that Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life. Just because Christianity describes what evil is doesn't make Christianity evil. Jews and Muslims also believe there is an unseen enemy.

Religion is just the messenger telling you about evil, like what happened to that guy in Virginia who killed those little Amish girls. Everyone said he was as sweet as pie, never hurt anyone in his life. All of a sudden wham, he's a murder/suicide. What happened, someone poop in his corn pops?

Evil, man. It exists and so does the enemy. God exists, yesterday, today and forever. Jesus loves you. He died and rose again so you won't have to pay for your sin.

1 Timothy 6:10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

You are wrong. Most religions are money based and and do not teach the true word of God.. IF they place their focus more on the money that they take in, wrather than teaching the word of God the way they are supposed to, they are no longer the instrument of God, but the instrument of satan who is the evil behind them.

I don't believe that religion is the root of all evil. I think any system or group that teaches that ignorance is a virtue and insists on blind faith is doing man a disservice and is likely to end up corrupt, but corruption takes many forms and is not limited to religion. If there is a root of all evil, I would say that it is selfishness. Self-interest has its proper place; but one cannot co-exist harmoniously with others without empathy and a healthy respect for the rights of others.

Religion is just like anything else: in the wrong hands it can be corrupted and abused and can be made into a weapon of corruption and abuse.

Otherwise, religion has a great purpose for those who understand what it has to offer. In the right hands it can be profoundly empowering and liberating.

The Holy Bible identifies "the love of money" as the root of all evil.
If the religion you are talking about is the Worship of the Almighty Dollar, then, yes, your answer is biblically correct.

And I'm sure that's just what you WANTED your answer to be, isn't it? :) Have a blessed day!
