You're right near Madison Square Garden and the post office, right? Not bad. I used to live near St. John the Baptist Church on 30th. At night, stay on the AVENUES...avoid the streets...too dark and not well patroled! If you ever feel uncomfortable, walk right into Penn Station and look for a cop.

I wouldn't describe it as a "nice area" -- that particular block is OK -- there are some nice buildings on that block -- the area is near Madison Square Garden and the Main post office -- it's a mixed use area with a fair amount of offices, retail. industrial, wholesalers. etc. -- it's an OK area, kinda "gritty".. There a lot of traffic on that block as it's near the Lincoln Tunnel outlet. 30th St. is a lot "nicer" on the East Side -- where I live.

It's a great area. It used to be called "Hell's Kitchen", but over the last ten years the yuppies have moved in and gentrified it. Have fun!
