It take awhile for the medicine in the percocet to get into your system. It's a medicine that can be rough on the stomach, so it's advised that you take it with milk or food. This however can slow the absorption of the medicine into your system. How your body metabolizes things also can affect this. My husband and I can both take a pill and it will start to work on him in 45 minutes and it will take me an hour and 20 minutes. Hope this helps

You have to digest the pill. When there's food in the stomach, digestion is more efficient and effective, so then the pill was broken down and thoroughly distributed through the body.
