Introverted literally means turned inward, and that's what these people are. They are often shy, usually very quiet -- they don't stand out in a crowd either by their behaviour or by the way they dress. Introverted people tend to have a few very good friends, and to enjoy intellectual pursuits.
Extroverts, on the other hand, are very outgoing people. They love being with other people, love being where the action is, love being the center of attention, and usually have dozens and dozens of friends, but not necessarily very close friends.

an introverted person doesn't like crowds, noises, busy functions, can't handle too many things at once. An Extraverted person is the opposite. Can't get enough noise, the life of the party, loves people, the more the merrier. The introvert is the person who plays chess then has to go sit alone and have dinner to give his head a break. The extravert throws a party and invites the whole neighborhood, lines up at the door of wal mart the day after thanksgiving, and can do 4 things at once and never be overwhelmed.
