Neither...Both!

As a group, I would say Buddhists. What wars have Buddhist as a group started? None! There were no Buddhist crusades or witch hunts and almost every nation that has adopted Buddhism as it primary religion has always been tolerant of other religions in the area.

As for those that answered Jesus or Christ, I would say that Jesus the person was very compassionate and tolerant, yes. But as a part of the "holy trinity' anything attributed to god the father or the holy spirit MUST, but definition, be attributed to the son. If you read the old testament, god the father is not very compassionate and most certainly not tolerant. So ig god the deity doesn't have these qualities how can the personification of the same being truly have these qualities?

However, I have meat many individuals who were Christian that were very compassionate and tolerant as well as Buddhist that were not. The fact is every person is their own person. I would not make generalizations in either directions, ort more precisely, I try not make generalizations.

I hope this helps.

I wouldn't say I think of Christians or Buddhists in general. Instead, I'd say when thinking about compassion and tolerance I think about Christ and the Buddha. Or I may think of individual christians and buddhists. For example I might think of Mother Teresa, MLK Jr., or the Dalai Lama.

While Buddhism, as far as I know, doesn't have a violent history like Christianity does what with the crusades and inquisitions and all, I still wouldn't say Buddhism is a more compassionate religion. Instead, I would say fewer Buddhists misinterpret and/or misrepresent the fundamental teachings of the religion.

As far as compassion and tolerance are concerned, I think the essence of both religions are more similar than not.
