A heavy bottomed saucepan is a pot/pan that has a heavy lining or coating on the bottom. This makes the pan more heat resistant, it helps with even heating and even cooking. You can tell by the price, as these are ususally more expensive then normal pots & pans, but well worth the money. Some pans have a copper bottom and these are good. but make sure that they are NOT all copper, as they take alot of work to maintain, and need to be resurfaced every few years.

A small pot (sauce pan) with an extra thick bottom. The extra thick bottom helps distribute heat and reduce chances of scorching. You can actually see the difference in the bottom of the pot if you are comparing saucepans at a store. A good stainless steel pot with a copper bottom is probably what you want. In a good kitchen supply store you could ask someone to show you one.

A heavy bottom sauce pan will usually have a thick steel or copper plate on the bottom of it. When you are making things that need to heat evenly or can burn easily you would use this pan. What are you making?

the bottom of the sauce pan is thicker then the sides like some stainlees steel have double metal...if you have a cast iron pan it will work..i cant figure out what you are preparing thar calls for a havy bottom sauce pan ...your best bet would be cast iron...and even if it calls for a sauce pan you can use a skillet if you can cook the amount in it......is it something that the pan has to be very hot ...blackened fish maybe...or something carmalized...

it just means you need a pan that is not like a thin bottom pot... heavy pan needed.... a lot of pans are fairly thin like a tin based pot..
