My fiancee and i want to get married on a beach somewhere, with only a few close friends. Does anyone know any good companies that provide services (photographers, decorations, food, etc) for these types of weddings? I have looked at Sandals.com, but it seems a little cheesy/tourist-y. How do i make sure the company i use for all this is a reputable company, since its so far away and i won't be able to meet with the real people before the week of the wedding?

I got married at The Ritz Carlton on Maui. They have a wedding planning department on site. They arranged everything--minister, limo, photographer, vocalist, flowers, dinner, even the appointment for the wedding license. Although all that sounds like it would be expensive, we really didn't spend more than if we had had a big wedding and a big reception locally. We wanted the ceremony to be about us, not about showing off to all our friends so it was really nice. It all worked out fabulous. One tip: plan to arrive several days before the ceremony. That way we had plenty of time to make sure all the details were in order rather than having to run around like crazy the day before.

Friends of our got married in Punta Cana last December, it cost 2 of us a bit less than $1500 to go for 4 nights. I didn't like Punta Cana, but more people could afford to got there than Mexico. We stayed at the Iberostar Dominicana; an all-inclusive resort on the beach. The beach was ok, the food was ok, the resort wasn't bad but it wasn't great either. 40 people total went, the wedding was beautiful. I know the bride worked with the resort to plan everything. One thing she didn't like was that everything in the Carribean is much more laid back than in Philadelphia and they work to their own schedule. The wedding came off without a hitch but she didn't know where she was actually getting married until we all got there. I have to say it was a beautiful wedding in columned courtyard with gorgeous tile. You can also get married on the beach, but the bride liked the courtyard better. A destination wedding is alot cheaper for the couple if they have it an all-inclusive resort because you don't have to pay for a reception, just make a reservation at one of their restaurants for everyone coming. We had a restaurant all to ourselves for the reception. This might be a time when you want to deal with a reputable travel agent at home, that way you know the resort you pick is reputable. Good luck.

Typically the wedding facility will provide you with a wedding planner with whom you will keep in close contact. Before booking ask to speak with this Representative and see how available and knowledgeable they are. Also note that many of these places require you to use the service providers on staff such as photographers so be sure to check all of that out before hand. Ask if your guests must be staying at the resort in order to attend the wedding or if there will be an additional fee for guests not staying on the grounds.
Note that it is your responsibility to pay for the lodging of your attendants.

I got invited to a destination wedding, it was great, I couldn't really afford a baby sitter though so I just left my 11 year old in charge of my 2 year old for the week I was gone.
The wedding was great but when I got home the house was a mess and the kids were sick, I left them 10 dollars in food stamps to order a pizza at some point during the week, but my little girl said that when she called the pizza was more than she had because dominos wouldn't take food stamps. She told me that the pizza guy was creepy and invited himself in and was watching our TV.
It was a good wedding though.

Check out the company with the better business bureau a lot of times if they are a good company they will be with the BBB. Hawaii has a lot of wonder places for weddings on the beach. I would call a wedding planner in Hawaii to see what they can find for you. Good Luck and I wish the both of you a happy life....

Destination weddings is the way to go. There are a ton of options other than Sandals which I personally choose. Super clubs, half Moon Bay etc. I can help you with this. Contact our office with your wedding dates and we will reply with information on packages. No charge for this service.

just make sure you go somewhere where your friends and family can afford to go.... $3,000 for 4 days is waaaaaay too much! Or at least offer to help people pay for it if you really want them there. It can be a good thing though! just plan it carefully!
