southern exposure orientation for the northern hemisphere, and air infiltration rate are the two biggest main factors in solar heating. but first you must make a distinction as to wheather you want class a(active) or class b(passive) solar heating. class b passive is in my opinion, is the most reliable. since class a active, has finite existance and is more expensive.
