it's much easier to train larger breeds like lab's and Golden's. Just keep in mind the smaller the dog the longer it takes to potty train. your best bet would be to go to the animal shelter and ask for a 1 or 2 old dog that is already house broken. this way you don't have to go through all the puppy "bad stuff" like potty training and chewing things along that line. I know puppy's are so cute and adorable but if you haven't hard a puppy in long time they are lots' and Lot's and may i repeat my self Lot's of work! I don't want to discourage you but make sure you have Lot's of time to spend on training. and other things. Good luck in you decision.

All dogs are irksome to housetrain... it all depends on the dog there isnt a particular breed that is easier than another. As for Great Danes, I had 2 (still have one) they are absolute pains in the bum to toilet train! lol. But they are great fun, you will never want another dog after having one. Although with all the deep chested breeds watch out for bloat, coz it kills them within half an hour if you get a dane n spot it pacing up and down, heart racing and vomiting white foam get him to a vet pronto. Just thought i would let you know lol coz it killed my first one. Get a book or 5 for whatever breed you pick and GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!

Go to the AKC (American Kennel CLub) website and read about the different breeds. On the page for each breed, click on the item in the left hand column and follow the links to the website for the AKC affiliated club dedicated to that breed.

http://www.akc.org/breeds/index.cfm

Housetraining is not really different among the breeds but training them to obey you most certainly is.

Read carefully about the temperment - words like "independent", generally mean the dog is harder to train unless you are experienced. Contact breeders (also on each club's esite and they all follow a Breeder'sCode of Ethics about health, genetic checks etc). Talk to them and they can help you decide if the breed is right for you.

All these people on this site keep posting their breed as being the BEST.

"Best depends upon your situation - housing, yard/apratment, fmaily, personality etc.

By the way, all the breed clubs (every breed has one) have a breed rescue for dogs of their breed. these are dogs who need a new home - lot sof reason but usually "gee we can't take care of him", divorces, death etc. The rescue for a breed will be very careful in matching the dog's temeprement and training to a hom; and they are always avaible for help and advice about the dog. You can find the links to rescuse on the club's web page or click on "Breed Rescue" in the left hand column of the AKC web page about the breed. Adopt an adult from rescue and you skip the puppy newspapers and training.

Good luck

Dont get a dog too small cause they can be quit a handful since they are so freaking hyper! I have a medium sized Jindo which is a Korean breed and they make great pets.

It depends if u r getting a puppy. A adult dog is much more easier to train..but for a puppy, maybe a golden retreiver buts its more expensive. try and pick the type of dog that is going to be big when it grows up.

Lab or Golden Retriever. Excellent dogs--if you have children--go with the golden!
