If you are or have recently been a student then you can come over and work for 6 months with the BUNAC programme. You can also come over as a Business investor if you have $400k to invest in your own business or as an innovator if you meet requirements and will be creating jobs. You may be able to apply for the Highly Skilled Migrants Programme. Otherwise your prospective employers have to prove that you are more qualified to do the job than anyone else in the whole of the European Union for you to get a work permit.
It's not easy to do I'm afraid.

You have to be cool.... to work in London. That is the most important requirement !!! Forget overrated New York or pretentious Paris. London is where it's at !!

that have a branch office in London, preferably an American

That all depends on what Career you have, suppose the easiest way would be to find companies that you can work for and send them your C.V...good luck !
