He was giving a speech and quoted King Constantine : "...Mo hammed spread islam by sword..and there were nothing new on islam....etc".
That might not exactly theword aid by Pope,..but more or less like that.
Pope statement spark anger from muslims and the muslims around the world protested. The poretests vary ,..from peaceful(mostly in europe)..to violent(in pakistan, middle east,indonesia,..etc)...which result in church burning,..nuns killed, and execution of 3 christians in indonesia.

He quoted a Christian monarch from Byzantium times, who said that the only thing original that Muhammed founded was violence in the name of religion(something along those lines), & thus caused an uproar in the Islamic world.
Ironically, their behaviour pretty much confirmed what the Pontiff said. More importantly, Muslim clerics & religious leaders in the Middle East & the Far East have a reputation for attacking non-Muslim religions. They constantly create venemous diartribes about Judaism & Christianity, & let's not forget how they destroyed Buddhist statues in Afghanistan, some years back.

The pope sparked the controversy when, in a speech Tuesday to university professors during a pilgrimage to his native Germany, he cited the words of a Byzantine emperor who characterized some of the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad, Islam's founder, as "evil and inhuman."

The speech was about Martians with ray guns invading the Earth. They even made a movie about it.
If you'd pay half as much attention to class and world events as you do to having others do your homework, you'd know this.

Out of appreciate, i imagine that the Pope might want to shop his hat. i might want to be exciting to hearken to them sing 'promises hell' through the All American Rejects. basically kidding- i'm no longer attempting to be offensive to my personal faith ;D it would want to really be yet another one among those 'Oops, I did it back' moments!
