In the Liturgy of the Hours, Lauds is Morning Prayer.

Midnight - Matins
6 AM - Lauds
9 AM - Terce
Noon - Sext
3 PM - None
6 PM - Vespers
9 PM - Compline

quoting a dictionary from 1917 (sorry it's the oldest one i have)
Laud: to praise in words or song; extol. praisein divine worship a song of praise.

it's just an odl school word for praise and worship!
