hi hun my mum is 43 and is a nanny to one who is now 6 months old and she dont like the world nan or grandma so i tried to make it slightly trendy by calling her nanny cally, her name is caroline, everything i use her name to my daughter as there is nothing i could think of to replace it. it makes you feel older by using nan followed by your surname so try accompanying it with your 1st name. congrats on become a gg (gorgeous gran) oh look that could be one.lol

Why are you worried about it? Obviously, if you're becoming a grandmother at 39, then you've either had a child at a very young age yourself, or your daughter (I assume it's your daughter having a baby) is having one at a very young age. My mother was only 18 when she had me; she's only 45 now, and already a grandmother (my younger brother has a daughter and she is a step-grandmother to my stepfather's granddaughter), and my husband and I are in the process of making her a grandma once again! Though I have to say, nanna is cute.

*By the way, I live in a Ukrainian area here in Canada. Baba is the Ukrainian word for 'Grandma'.

Well Nan Nanny Grandma Grandad Granpa are all traditional and I don't see anything wrong with them but I have also heard
Big Mum/Dad.
Regrettably even your 39 years will be regarded as ancient by the child - that's just how it is.

Congrats on the new grandbaby! I am also a new grandmother for the first time and I am also 39. We have decided on Babbs for me, only because it matches my real name. I see your name is Lou...maybe you could try LaLa or something that matches your name. I also have a cousin that's a grandmother at a young age and her grandchild calls her Honey. Good luck with the name and grandchild.

Wait until the baby is born. You will be that delighted you will feel proud to be called nan or grandma. I was only 39 when my first grandaughter was born and I felt the same way, until as I say she was born I did'nt care what she called me I was so delighted.

Hello Lou,

That's fantastic, congratulations. I'm still waiting for some of those and I'm 42 and jealous. You must be really excited xx The Italian for Granny is Nona, which is really nice. Nu Nu is what you would probs get called in reality. I hope you have a fantastic time. xx

i became a nan at 40....he is almost 3 now and he calls me noonoo, i don't know why but it's cute, also congratulations...being a grandparent will change your life dramatically....it's a wonderful experience...you will cry your leg off when this child is born...when he or she gets older they will call you what ever comes out of their Mouthe's first...who knows...nan is OK...granny is fine...grandmother is like a bit old fashioned but i cant see a young child coming out with such a word at such a young age.....nan seems good tho...or even noonoo...congrats my dear

I became a grandmother at 38 & was called nana by all of my granchildren until my youngest grandaughter decided to call me nanny, I really don't care what they call me they are such a blessing, I love them to bits, I can spend time with them & give them back at the end of the day, to me it's called having your cake & eating it. ENJOY! it doesn't matter what they call you.
